Well, the bathroom is finished.

There have been so many improvements made. A room built, a fence, 2 decks and a shed.

Our little desert nest is very comfortable.

I learned how to spin fiber and weave cloth and have even sold some of my work at art fairs. It’s been a very productive few years. I never expected any of it but here we are. I feel like I’ve been on auto pilot in many ways and the “vehicle” has stopped and I am taking a breath and looking around. It’s beautiful here on the edge of the desert. Raw and wild and unforgiving. Summers here can feel like you’re being burned alive so it’s essential to have an escape route for the few weeks where it becomes uninhabitable. I’ve acclimated enough to where 90 is the new 70. I remember when 90 felt like death was imminent. Surprising what one can adapt to.

I marvel at the early desert settlers. It didn’t get as hot back then but it was still brutal. They came and settled. They were a unique few. Marshal South and Cabot Yerxa are two that come to mind. These guys were hardcore lunatics with a vision.

I’m just a hardcore lunatic. With occasional visions.

  1. Quel surprise to see you here! Glad Ms Moon still has a link up on her site and up you popped! Of course, I follow you elsewhere, online and in my travels. Sitting at my table somewhere in the south of France amid the detritus of valentine making listening to http://www.francemusique. fr “Love” stream (all their streams are wonderfully varied and ad free!). It’s been a cold Jan/Feb here but we are getting much needed rain. Back to CA in time for my garden in flower mid March. Bisous de ici. N2

    • Yes, what a surprise! I didn’t expect anyone to be here after all this time but it’s lovely to hear from you! Sadly the music link didn’t work. I will dig further. Your garden in CA should be lush and gorgeous by the time you return. We too are eagerly awaiting some rain this week. 💜💜💜

  2. I was just thinking about you and Scott! How lovely to see you here again. I’ve been seeing your posts on FB and have admired your new skills greatly.
I hear you about the early travelers and settlers. I often think the same about those who first arrived and then stayed in Florida. Not only the heat but the insects and the diseases they carry, the poisonous plants, the poisonous snakes. Alligators, bears, crocodiles, panthers. We got ALL the good stuff. Those people were truly tough but let us think about the indigenous people who had already been living here for millennia before they arrived. Definitely they were the OG’s.
    Love to you both.

    • Mary! So good to hear from you. Yes, the OG’s. In Florida! My goddess, when I think of them I am utterly humbled. Of course they didn’t have all the terrors we are now living. There really is no contest. Six of one, half a dozen of the other… we’re all always doomed. Eat the cake first. Love to you and Glen and your whole beautiful tribe.💜🥰
