Hot Dang, The Dishwasher’s done it again!

I found Thomas Keller’s Ad Hoc at Home cookbook at the library on Friday.  The man is a genius. He makes a real pretty book and Himself made a couple of the recipes yesterday (see asparagus and poached eggs with pancetta!!!) we will be buying this book.

I’ve been practicing some Ikebana.  Heaven, Earth and Humanity all represented in the above very informal arrangement.

And here:

The new trick learned here was to cut the flowers underwater. I’d heard this before but never bothered with it. I see its value now, that purple vine is a Hardenbergia which I’ve used before and always had it look like small purple raisins by the next morning. Here it is looking fresh and beautiful on day two.

The Lair went up this week and Lu didn’t waste any time getting her freak on.  Miss Thing loves the Lair maybe more than we do. She lets the curtains dancing on the breeze caress and pet her and she becomes…altered.  Her face stretches out, she moves very slowly, limbs trembling as she makes her way around the perimeter. It’s something to see.
Then she starts class

We call this one Upward facing Frog

I think I’ve almost got it.

I had one of those dreams this morning. It seemed terribly important that I remember it but the more awake I became, the further away the details. In it I visited with acquaintances from what seems like long ago, when our family was intact, acquaintances I now shy away from to avoid my awkwardness but, I digress. In the dream these people were the ones suffering and they shared it with me freely and afterward I was a little stunned and sitting at a bar with Scott and some other people and he brought me a beer. A beer? “Really, a beer?” I asked him. I don’t drink beer.  Then I was talking to a strange woman who could have been a man but she wasn’t she was a retired cop and she told me something important that I can’t remember. Of course.
I’m putting in a request for whoever is in charge of my dreams.
Let me in!

We spent the weekend feathering the nest, cleaning and re-arranging things. One of the benefits of this is the re-discovery of things put away and forgotten for the most part. Our nest is…cozy, not much wall space for all the art we have to hang and though I like to think about rotating our art, some pieces I just can’t bear to put away.
This quilt is not one of those pieces. I actually put this one away right after finishing it and didn’t look at it again. I hated it because it’s so wobbly, it won’t hang straight on the wall, however it has some of my favorite little embroideries and I haven’t figured out what to do with it yet. That is until this weekend we had to move some things around and there was a bare spot and this was the easiest thing to get to and the colors were just right…

so it’s a little wobbly.

so am I.

Sunday Garden Tour
Tulips in the front window, still hanging on and more coming up!
The cerinthe has filled in and replaced the penstemon. I love this carefree jumble of calendula, jupiter’s beard, tulips, roses and allium. This front patch feels like it’s made itself. We planted two iceberg roses and I threw in some cerinthe seeds and planted a few tulip bulbs but other than that I’ve had nothing else to do with it.
One sad looking tulip and a very curious daffodil. This bed has also come together with not much planning. I threw out some love-in-a-mist seeds and tulip bulbs. The perfect combination. Once the bulbs are done the nigella will be in bloom.

The wisteria surprised us today. Last I looked it was just tight little buds. How beautiful it looks and smells with all the lilies.

This camelia at the JPH has convinced me to give this plant another try in our own garden.  But where?
There are a couple spots back by the lair or maybe just in front of the hammock?
and this…

I’ve got a couple of these fuschia but not this color combination and none that perform as well as this very well established beauty at the Inn.
and this! a borderline weed I think but oh my
that little drop of water about to drop…
