There was a problem with my ATM card and I was waiting on a very long line at the bank/hotel lobby to speak with a teller. When I finally arrived at his desk I noticed it was a glass case, like a butcher’s display and inside was a dog sleeping, nestled in among some blankets, but as the teller started to sing, an old Frank Sinatra tune I can’t remember which, the dog shook himself awake and joined the teller, belting out the chorus in harmony.
I didn’t eat anything strange and I didn’t drink any alcohol, I did go to the bank, the drive-thru, but still I can’t figure out where that one came from.

Also, what am I doing with a picture of Frank in my photo collection?

Sunday House Tour

Do not be afraid.

Creepy never hurt anybody.

Monkey holds my thimble of peace and happiness and three candles.

Peasants with pitchforks, one of five beautiful blocks from a sweet friend.
Thanks A!
This sweet face is made of some rubbery substance that makes you want to squeeze and mush it up.  Much like this face.

These two are probably the only things we never move.  The smoking baby and Zipper mouth.

Weed?  I don’t know, maybe, but it is beautiful and I’m not pulling it out. It’s growing on the fence next to the hammock. Looks like some kind of Geranium to me.

Collard greens flowering now and maybe past their good eating time?

The tulips under the maple still doing their thing. Sometimes they look as though they’re done and when I look again, they look like they’re just getting started.  And the maple tree…
always late for the party but always makes a grand entrance.

A chunk of the Hearst Castle given to me by a friend who used to work up there.

Lady and the wrench.
Shoes made it through the winter and look just fine.

One of the many soccer balls that magically make their way into our yard, no one ever comes to claim them and not one frog has moved into the little house we’ve provided.
The geranium propagated from Jim’s bush next door cozying up to the lemon balm.

Tulip in the front yard.
More rain expected today and tomorrow and next weekend.
I’m proud of myself for waiting out March and not buying or planting anything and have only purchased a few succulents for under the plum tree and a hydrangea for the driveway.

Hot Dang, The Dishwasher’s done it again!

I found Thomas Keller’s Ad Hoc at Home cookbook at the library on Friday.  The man is a genius. He makes a real pretty book and Himself made a couple of the recipes yesterday (see asparagus and poached eggs with pancetta!!!) we will be buying this book.

I’ve been practicing some Ikebana.  Heaven, Earth and Humanity all represented in the above very informal arrangement.

And here:

The new trick learned here was to cut the flowers underwater. I’d heard this before but never bothered with it. I see its value now, that purple vine is a Hardenbergia which I’ve used before and always had it look like small purple raisins by the next morning. Here it is looking fresh and beautiful on day two.

The Lair went up this week and Lu didn’t waste any time getting her freak on.  Miss Thing loves the Lair maybe more than we do. She lets the curtains dancing on the breeze caress and pet her and she becomes…altered.  Her face stretches out, she moves very slowly, limbs trembling as she makes her way around the perimeter. It’s something to see.
Then she starts class

What’s blooming in the garden right now:

Tulips!
Fuschia,
Wisteria, Lilies,
Cerinthe, Abutilon, Pineapple sage (but not very much), Lavender, Primroses...
Vast amounts of weeds have been pulled. The green waste bin is bursting at the seams and still there are mounds in the garden that will have to wait until next week. My back, she’s screaming. I will be going to Dr crunch tomorrow, I’ve waited long enough.
I cut back and dug up one of the lavenders in the back garden and planted it in the driveway where I hope it will live long and prosper. My plan was originally to line the entire driveway with Hydrangea and I’ve got a couple going already but I think the Lavender and the Fortnight Lily which I’ve also got transplanted and established will do nicely since I have a real aversion to watering that spot and low maintenance seems the logical solution.
It wasn’t all hard work…

March 24,2010
I had one of those dreams this morning. It seemed terribly important that I remember it but the more awake I became, the further away the details. In it I visited with acquaintances from what seems like long ago, when our family was intact, acquaintances I now shy away from to avoid my awkwardness but, I digress. In the dream these people were the ones suffering and they shared it with me freely and afterward I was a little stunned and sitting at a bar with Scott and some other people and he brought me a beer. A beer? “Really, a beer?” I asked him. I don’t drink beer.  Then I was talking to a strange woman who could have been a man but she wasn’t she was a retired cop and she told me something important that I can’t remember. Of course.
I’m putting in a request for whoever is in charge of my dreams.
Let me in!
