it’s raining today

and we are now proud owners of a working furnace!!!!

the plan is to stitch and knit and then make a bowl of shrimp and roasted vegetables in a balsamic butter sauce to serve over a bowl of pasta.

here is an old nine patch i did years ago

home from la…..

and so glad of it.  it was like tasting too many wines or trying to smell too many perfumes.  after a while it all jumbles together and i can no longer taste or smell and in this case, see.
we went to the Getty where my mother-in-law took a wonderful class and the Norton Simon museum instead of the Huntington because it was pouring rain and i really wanted to walk the gardens more than anything.  we had a $50 breakfast at the hotel restaurant on the 17th floor and listened to movie execs talk about Denzel. we had drinks at the bar and watched the garland of red and white lights that was the 405

if you go to the Getty don’t eat any donuts…

but do try the banh mi at Pho City in Westwood.

i feel stunned and unmoored and grateful that my body knows how to carry on without me, that the sun comes up and the garbage truck roars by and the dog asks to be let out only to ask to be let in when she registers the cold, that the dishwasher makes my coffee and smells delicious when he puts his lips to mine, and that the furnace guy is coming today and we can finally heat our house! that so many of you shower us with your love and support.

thank you.

city of the fallen angels

do you recognize this scottie?  i forgot the cord for the camera so i used one of your images from san diego?

a fallen angel.

the traffic sounds like the ocean.

i like the feeling of being one tiny star in the galaxy tonight.
i like my mother-in-law and i like that we have taken this
little trip together.
we were remembering the last trip we took together by train from Pusan to Seoul when i bought a goofy bird painting and she bought a carved “mangy” scene which she still puts under her Christmas tree each year.

we train with slogans at our house.  currently this one is very helpful.  it reminds me that life is sweet and life is ugly and neither one is absolute or eternal.  the wheel turns.

this one is also good to keep in mind.

i’ve been watching old movies lately.
first one: The Bad Seed a (1956) horror/thriller which i thought was brilliant and creepy.

then we watched The Night of The Hunter (1955) with Robert Mitchum, also creepy. favorite scene: with Mitchum and Lillian Gish singing Leaning on Jesus.

then i watched The Sandpiper (1965) with Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton.  oh boy!
talk about creepy.  but it was all filmed in Big Sur and that “little shack on the beach” Burton refers to in the movie is probably a couple three million dollars.

and i’ve been watching Art 21 a PBS series on art that makes me seriously question the sanity of most of those artists and convinced me that jeff koons is a big fat weeinie.

all those things and a visit to my daughter today are making life seem a little surreal.
