The Monkey King

New necklace in the shop.
The Monkey King. Magical being from China said to have helped bring and translate the sutras from India. Sweet, smart, good little Monkey.

It’s my gettin’ ready for Fall necklace. Even though Fall doesn’t arrive here until sometime in November or December. For me personally, fall has already arrived. I’ve quit sewing summer things and am already sewing for warmth and looking at richer darker colors.

The studio has transformed once again. I’ve gotten rid of my girly daybed and made more space for my massage bed and yoga mat. I’ve once again organized all my stuff. Defining and refining.
I’m feeling very organized.

And full.
The Dishwasher is on a tear. Making cakes now in addition to heart stopping delicious meals.

Home again home again

Back from a most beautiful week at Esalen. See thedishwasherstears.blogspot.com ratfuck post for a description. Really there weren’t that many people there with dreadlocks and the free range onion soup was truly delectable.

Finally I found the California Pat Johnson and I used to dream about when we were in high school. Sun, ocean, beautiful people in touch with their inner everything.

It was a difficult time to leave my nest but I’m so glad I did. Things in my brain and body shifted and made room for…

what’s to come.

This morning after my gym workout I stretched and felt loose and open in places I thought were locked up tight forever. Thai Massage is a beautiful thing. I highly recommend you find a practitioner and get one today! Or call me for an appointment.

Also I highly recommend a stay at Esalen. It will cure what ails you.
The food is dead good too.

August 15 Rain?

Yes it’s true. It rained here this morning for about 5 minutes. And there was thunder and Raj cried about it. She carried on and on for about half hour before the fact and then settled in the casita.
Wonder of wonders. Rain!

All the plums are gone. The birds had their unfair share and I managed a couple of delectable desserts. I stood under the tree the other day and thanked her.

The johnny jump-ups we moved under the maple tree look sad and though they’ve dropped some seeds it will be a good while before we see anything come up there.

My eggplants are lush and big and beautiful and flowering. If it gets/stays warm I may even get a couple of eggplants out of the deal.

The tomato plant finally has some fruit! If all goes well I’ll be eating a tomato mozzarella salad in late September. Seems my good luck with tomatoes didn’t hold this year.

I’ve planted:
romaine
broccoli rabe
cerinthe
forget-me-nots
scarlet runner beans
and
kale
seeds in the laundry room.
I read that starting seeds indoors makes for healthier stronger plants.

The broccoli rabe and romaine I planted in coffee tubs is doing nicely and should be ready to eat when I get back.

I’m planning on keeping the garden going all winter. At least with greens for eating.

I’ve got another avocado pit in water and some papaya seeds in the laundry room.
I can dream can’t I.

Notes to self

When registering for a workshop always double, no, triple check the dates to be sure you aren’t registering for a week instead of a weekend.

When making doctor/any appointments, write down date and time.

When planting peppers be sure to tag or mark in some fashion so that you don’t blithely saute those peppers with your eggplant and then spend the next hour coughing and gasping. Nose hairs singed.

Remember Dwight Shrute’s words: Whenever I’m about to do something, I think” would an idiot do that?” And if they would, I do not do that thing.

allium and nasturtium

The garden is quiet these days.

The plum tree is almost done. The central garden has been done for weeks and all that needs care and watering now are the veggies ( planted in pots to avoid feeding the gophers) and the compost bins.

The front hedge had it’s cut this morning so it’s all straight and perfect. Something Scottie prefers. Left to me it would look like a hippie instead of a marine. I like the little pink flowers it puts out. So do the bees.

Still. I wander around and cut flowers for my weekly “icky bana” arrangement.
Last weeks.

The sweet peas are lovely along the back fence this year. I keep forgetting to put some more in for a continuous show. Think I’ll have to put them somewhere else as I need that shelf they’re growing in just now. It will make a good spot for our veggie pots this winter. Movable and Cassius won’t be able to water them.

We have more of summer ahead but not much. I can feel it turning. The winds have been cold the last few days.
Time to start knitting socks again.

It’s fruit and veg day….

My stomach demands. Give me the scones! Their sitting right there dammit! What are you waiting for!

My stomach is a tyrant. It scorns the beautiful plums I picked from our tree this morning. It snickers at the fragrant peaches I packed in my bag for a snack. It may be appeased with the zucchini I purchased this morning to grill with garlic and mint. It may settle down and leave me be for a minute if I make some of that right now.

I lost 3 lbs last week so I’m encouraged to soldier on.
