Like that can even happen.

I actually wish we had more time to spend just being there, looking. It went by so fast, trying to catch up years with my boy. He is a gem.

They also have a Dino Saur Park out back in addition to a gift shop selling ceramic Superman cookie jars. So if you need one…

 I want to thank the Dishwasher for being such a sport and taking me to Peggy Sue’s Diner where he sat patiently watching me eat and then walked through the gift shop with me.  

This man, he’s a rock.

Fuschia by the hammock, gets so little light under the maple and yet it blooms and dances in it’s pretty pink dress. It gives me hope.

That, and the Hydrangea in the pot on the back deck, stuck there last year while I waited out the paint job on the house, thinking I’d plant it there and have the driveway lined in blowzy blossoms come the end of summer. Instead it made itself a home in that pot and there it will stay.

Our weekend trip to Sin City gave me ideas.
Look at this craziness…

unlike everything else in Vegas, those plants are real. In pots! Millions of them in little plastic pots so even the giant ants can’t do much damage. Now I’m sorry I tossed all those black plastic pots! 
The tomato and cauliflower live on and now will be joined by other plants dug into the ground and planted in plastic pots. Take that gophers!

I’ve been wanting to play with images lately but am unmoved by my collection, Today when I opened our photo files I found three images that became this painting. Just like that.

 And that’s just how I made a tunic today. 

Blue linen again but not like the jacket/duster, this is more periwinkle blue, brighter, sunnier. The pattern comes from the last Japanese pattern book I found in SF.   A simple a-line dress pattern, so pretty! These patterns are amazing. I’ve made about three or four pieces now and they all fit beautifully and once I figure out how to put them together they are a snap to construct. This was the easiest one so far. I made it into a tunic when I started playing with the hem. I folded and sewed in a wavy line four times around the bottom, then I stitched a wavy line around the neckline. I’m calling it my blue wave tunic. The picture doesn’t do it justice but I like the jasmine in the lower right corner and the pretty dappled light.

and in the garden…

The gophers have got me down, it’s true but the lavender keeps going and there are sweet peas blooming though they don’t seem to smell as sweet as past years.

Still…

The hydrangea are very happy in this pot on the back deck and so far the ones in the ground haven’t been disturbed and all are budding.

Last night I dreamed we were moving into a  house near a lake. I stepped into the lake and standing on a rock next to me, just under the surface was what looked like an elephant with wings about the size of a rabbit.  It swam towards me and then away. It wanted to play with me! I chased it around, out of the water and through a playground. I was wearing a short dress and I could run very fast and when he flew over a fence, I didn’t hesitate a moment, I easily scaled that fence but he got away. I was telling someone about it and he said “oh that’s a something or other, I can’t remember now what he called it.

What a happy dream! My dreams are usually so boring or sad except for that one about you Allene being skinny and demonstrating yoga with your dog! Tearful always has the most amazing fantastical dreams. I want to visit his dreams except for the fighting fighting ones or the ones with celebrities, unless its with Val Kilmer or Abraham Lincoln or the ones where he’s about to die.

Now I’ll have to go see what the winged elephant could mean.

I may be mistaken about not sewing anything wearable. My eyes are still looking at clothes and I’ve got some beautiful fabrics on the queue…

I’m still in love with my blue linen duster with the hand sewn buttonholes and hand made buttons. The other stitchery may have to wait a while longer.

I’m indulging almost all my whims.

The Alium and the Iceberg Rose have fallen in love.
I can’t wait to see their babies.


That’s the most exciting thing happening in the front yard these days and meanwhile in the backyard the gophers have taken control. All those cats that used to wander around are nowhere to be seen. Maybe the gophers ate them. 
Anyway, they are having quite a party back there, mounds of chewed earth everywhere and one of their favorite activities aside from eating all my lettuces, is digging up the tulip bulbs and leaving them strewn about like empty beer cans. 
I can’t bear to call the gopher killer. He’s not long for this world with all those dead gophers blood on his hands, not to mention whatever horrible chemicals he uses day after day. He has no white in his eyes, only red and he likes to talk. Alot. Mostly about the many ways to kill gophers. 
I can’t have it. I’ve decided to let them have it all. Next year I’ll plant in big tubs.  
I’ve lost most of my gardening mojo it seems. I water and I weed but I have no desire to feed the gophers any more than I have to. If they don’t eat them, we’ll have some tomatoes and cauliflower. 

I may be mistaken about not sewing anything wearable. My eyes are still looking at clothes and I’ve got some beautiful fabrics on the queue…
